Zarahemla
Zarahemla
Zarahemla
This is the name that is mentioned most in the Book of Mormon, Zarahemla is a city that is located into the jungle in our country, close to the Sidon River, which is also very important in the narratives of The Scriptures, the river is important because wars were fought on its banks and the bodies of the victims were thrown into the river; but the Sidon River also served to baptize many people.
Omni 1:12–23.
A Nephite group heads north and finds the city of Zarahemla, the city was inhabited by Mulekites, or followers of Mulek, who had led a group of people to the Gulf of Mexico in the year 587 B.C. Mulek was the son of King Zedekiah.
Mosiah, leader of the Nephite group, had brought with him the bronze plates containing the annals of the Jews. Both people were very happy to have met and were guided by the Holy Spirit at all times. The joy of both people was such that they united and named Mosiah king.
Mosiah during his reign, had a son who was known as King Benjamin, who in turn calls his son Mosiah to ask him to build a tower to speak to his people at the time of ceding power to his son, when he felt that his time in this world had come to an end.
About 200 years BC. C., Zeniff, a Nephite, leads a group and leaves Zarahemla towards the south to claim his lands, that is, The Land of Nephi; Once Zeniff and his group arrive, the Lamanites reduce them to captivity. Later, King Mosiah sends Ammon to find the group and Ammon converts King Limhi.
Mosíah 11; 17–18; 23–24.
Alma1 is born among the people of Zeniff and becomes one of King Noah's wicked priests. The prophet Abinadi is killed after calling King Noah to repent. However, Alma1 believes Abinadi's teachings and flees with a group of believers; Eventually, he joins the Nephites.
This is a trip full of emotions, we will travel through the Sidon River full of crocodiles, yes, where the corpses of those who died and overcame were thrown more than 12,000 souls; Then we will go up to the city that still remains after having burned down in the year 34.
We offer 2 travel alternatives to visit this impressive place:
1. The first alternative is to leave Guatemala City by plane, a vehicle
awaits us at the airport and
Drive to the Sidon River to take the boat and head to Zarahemla.
This trip will last 2 days.
We will return by plane to Guatemala City. It is relatively expensive
because of the air service.
2. The second alternative is more attractive but tiring, it is a land trip and
it is necessary to travel by car
for many hours. We reach the Sidon River, then we board the boat to sail
towards Zarahemla and
In both cases we will sleep in the jungle and the next morning visit Moroniah,
the city that was split and destroyed in the year 34 as a result of the cataclysm.
